CK Maloney Surveying is proud to celebrate a significant milestone for one of our team members, Kelvin Quartermaine, who has successfully completed his Diploma studies through the Industry Training Alliance (ITA).

Kelvin’s journey into surveying is a testament to determination, resilience, and the value of opportunity. He first joined our team transitioning from a plumbing background, bringing with him a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn. Recognising his potential, we supported Kelvin to begin a traineeship while continuing to work and meet his financial commitments—a balancing act many aspiring professionals face.
Starting with a Certificate III and progressing to a Certificate IV, Kelvin demonstrated consistent commitment and growth. However, challenges emerged when federal funding for traineeships was cut following his Certificate IV completion—despite the ongoing skills shortage in the surveying industry that we face nationwide. At CK Maloney Surveying, we remained committed to Kelvin’s development and continued to support him in pursuing his Diploma qualification.

A key part of Kelvin’s success has been the support structure provided by the Industry Training Alliance. ITA delivers a flexible and highly effective training model, enabling participants to work full-time while dedicating one day per week to structured, remote classroom learning.
This has proven to be an ideal alternative to traditional TAFE pathways, which often require three to four days of in-person attendance each week. The ITA model allowed Kelvin to continue contributing to the business while advancing his qualifications—a win-win for both employee and employer.
Kelvin’s achievement carries even greater significance as he becomes the first Indigenous trainee within our business to complete these studies. This is a milestone we are incredibly proud of. His success not only reflects his personal dedication but also inspires us as a company to continue creating meaningful pathways and opportunities for Indigenous trainees and surveyors in the future.
We look forward to Kelvin continuing to grow within the profession and helping lead the way for others entering the industry. His journey highlights what can be achieved when determination meets the right support and opportunities.
Congratulations, Kelvin—this is a fantastic achievement, and we are proud to have you as part of the CK Maloney Surveying team.
